For Cindy Redman, the Food Farmacy arrived at exactly the right moment. After running out of both money and food, she shared her situation with one of her healthcare providers, who immediately connected her to the program. Living with multiple chronic health conditions, Cindy understands firsthand that the quality of the food she eats has a direct impact on her symptoms, her health and her quality of life.
Since joining the Food Farmacy, Cindy has been inspired by far more than the fresh, nutritious food. She has found a welcoming community filled with encouragement, education and hope. Although she has not yet had the opportunity to attend the nutrition classes, she is eager to learn from the registered dietitians and take advantage of the resources available.
“Everybody’s got a good attitude, and everybody’s glad to be here, I love it.”
Cindy believes the Food Farmacy has the potential to transform lives across New Mexico. She sees countless neighbors living with diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, and other chronic illnesses who simply lack access to nutritious food and practical education they need to better manage their health. While traditional food banks provide an essential service, Cindy knows that fresh produce and other healthy options are often the first items to disappear.
“This would be the boost they need. They would have a better quality of life.”
Thanks to generous donors, that boost is already changing lives. With continued support, even more individuals and families can gain access to nourishing food, valuable nutrition education, and the opportunity to take greater control of their health—one meal at a time.
