When Christina and Gary McCraw discovered Presbyterian’s Food Is Medicine program through Presbyterian Health Plan, they hoped it might help them make healthier choices. What they found was much more than access to fresh produce. They found an opportunity to learn, connect and grow together.
“Both of us were able to get a lot more fruits and vegetables into our system.” - Christina
Through cooking classes, educational workshops and hands-on guidance from volunteers, the couple expanded their knowledge of fruits and vegetables and found new ways to incorporate them into their daily lives.
“The volunteers at the Food Farmacy were so helpful and amazing. They made the experience really terrific.” – Gary
The program helped them eat more nutritious foods, explore ingredients they had never tried before and gain confidence in preparing healthy meals. They also built meaningful relationships along the way. Christina and Gary became so attached to the volunteers that he brought them holiday treats each year, describing the experience as feeling like “a family affair.” For Christina and Gary, the Food Is Medicine program provided not only healthy food and education, but also a welcoming community that left a lasting impact on their lives.
“The program was really great for both of us. We learned different recipes using fruits and vegetables.” – Christina
